Breeding Pomeranians professionally for us involves several key aspects to ensure the health, well-being, and quality of the puppies while maintaining ethical practices.

Here are the critical steps to consider when establishing or maintaining a professional Pomeranian breeding program:

Pomeranians are small dogs with a flufty double coat, typically weighing 3-7 Ibs. The coat requires regular grooming to keep it healthy.

They are known for being lively, friendly, and intelligent. However, they can also be somewhat stubborn and independent.

Common health issues include dental problems, patellar luxation, tracheal collapse, and heart conditions.

Understanding these risks is vital for breeding responsibly.

It is crucial to screen breeding dogs for hereditary conditions like hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, heart issues, and other breed-specific genetic problems.

Regular veterinary care, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, and dental checks, should be part of the dog's routine. A pre-breeding health exam is also recommended to ensure the dog is fit to breed.

All breeding dogs should be up-to-date on vaccinations and regularly dewormed to avoid transmitting infections to puppies.

Choose dogs with good lineage to ensure high-quality puppies. This often involves studying the bloodlines to avoid inbreeding.

The temperament of both parents should be evaluated to ensure puppies inherit a balanced personality.

Conformation to Standards: Select dogs that meet the breed standard for Pomeranians, including coat color, structure, and size. However, don't sacrifice health for appearance.

Limit the number of litters a female dog has to maintain her health and ensure she doesn't become overworked.

Use ovulation tests or progesterone testing to determine the optimal time for mating.

If natural mating isn't possible, artificial insemination may be necessary, particularly for preserving genetics or if the dogs are located far apart.

Pregnancy in Pomeranians typically lasts 63 days. Keep a close eye on the dam's health, nutrition, and emotional well-being during this period.
